Metric Unit of Temperature

 

Temperature is the degree of hotness of a matter. It tells us how hot or cold a matter is.

There are Several different scales that can be used to measure temperature such as Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Celsius scales.

The Celsius scale is the most widely used.

The metric unit is degree Celsius (°C).

In Celsius scale, the freezing point of water is 0°C and the boiling point is 100°C.

This scale is devised by Swedish astronomer, Anders Celsius.

In Fahrenheit scale, the freezing point of water is 32°F and the boiling point is 212°F.

Temperature and heat are not the same.

100 ml of water has more heat than 100 ml of water, although they have the same temperature. This is because more heat is needed to warm a larger amount of substance compares to a smaller amount of substances. Therefore, the temperature of a substance depends on its mass and the amount of heat contained by it.
