Food Chain and Food Web

We eat food to get energy to do work and to carry out our life processes. However, energy cannot be made. It can only be transformed from one type to another. Plants are the only organisms that can harness the Sun‘s energy to synthesize their own food. Herbivores then eat the plants to get the energy. When carnivores or omnivores eat herbivores, the energy is then transferred. Knowing the food chains and food web in a habitat would help us to understand that no one can live alone. We need one another in a habitat to stay alive. One species is a source of food to another species. If a certain species no longer exist, it might threaten other species as well.

This should not enrich our knowledge and understanding but also promote interest towards careers  such as ecologist, environmentalists and zoologists.
