Solar cell

6 03 2012

Solar cell transfer the energy carried by the electromagnetic waves that make up sunlight directly to an electrical circuit to make a current flow. They are made of very thin layers of semiconductor. When a layer is struck by light, electrons are ejected from the surface of the layer, causing a current to flow. Solar cells generally produce only small currents. Therefore, large arrays of cells are needed to produce many currents at useful voltages.
