15 01 2012

There are four types of dispersal; wind, animal, water and explosive mechanism. Seeds and fruits dispersed in each type have special characteristics.

Type of dispersal

Characteristics

Has husk to help it float: air spaces.

Animal

Fruit has fleshy and edible part, hard seed that cannot be digested by animals. Some have hook that can be attached to the animals fur or clothing.

Explosive mechanism

Fruit dries up, splits at edge and the seeds are pushed out.

Examples of wind dispersal
