Defining Species and How They Ensure Their Survival

Species are composes of related individuals that have common characteristics and can breed among themselves to produce offspring. Reproduction is to produce offspring so the species will continue to exist. However, there are some offspring that may not reach adulthood. The animals need to devise ways to make sure their survival. Taking care of the eggs and young is a way to secure the existence of their species. Most mammalian take care of their young. Different animals have different ways of taking care of their eggs and young. But some animals do not take care of their eggs and young. They devise other ways to make sure the survival of their species such as producing plenty of eggs and covering the eggs with slimy substances.
